While our existing minerals portfolio is geared towards exploration, mining and commodity trading, there is significant interest from the end user market for increased visibility of supply chain activities. Consumers are seeking more clarity on the origin of commodities which are used in the manufacture of end products such as vehicles and electronic devices.
Responsible sourcing is about producing and manufacturing in a socially, ethically and legally responsible manner. It includes environmental protection, safeguarding natural resources and ensuring the safety and sustainability of all activities.
One commodity generating interest in this context is cobalt. 50% of all cobalt extracted from the ground is used in the manufacture of rechargeable batteries and used in growing industries such as the electric vehicle and mobile phone markets. The Democratic Republic of Congo and Zambia account for more than 50% of global cobalt production.
