Durability Testing

Our comprehensive durability assessment service supports the textile industry in the development of garments and textiles with a longer lifespan. Our tailormade solution offers testing protocols that match the threshold requirements at each stage of the development process:

  • Base test (materials and parts) – basic, required tests
  • Performance test (materials) – additional, commonly used material tests
  • Longevity test (final products – e.g. garments) – full product testing, including ageing processes (laundering and/or usage)

Fiberfastness Services

Pollution from fiber fragments released during the laundering process has become a concern for stakeholders in the textile industry, the media and end consumers in recent years. Although a recent official harmonized test method for evaluating fiber fragmentation in fabrics and materials has been published, we have led the way and developed innovative protocols to help businesses understand the problem and manage their risks.

We have been proactively tackling the fiber fragmentation issue and improving the fiberfastness of textile products during laundering. Our services include:

  • Fiberfastness to Laundering – Full Scale Method with Domestic Laundering, since 2017
  • Fiberfastness to Laundering – Small Scale Method with Accelerated Laundering, since 2019
  • Research and development – to demonstrate the strong correlation between the results of full scale and small-scale methods

The SGS Independently Checked Mark (IC Mark)

The SGS IC Mark helps you to build trust with consumers, because it shows that your products have passed independent, third-party testing.

Independent verification with the IC Mark gives you a way to look beyond achieving the legal minimum, to focus on your strengths and to put the consumer at the heart of your activities.

It also allows manufacturers, or retailers, to choose one or more of the initiative’s seven testing criteria to test their products to:

  • Quality
  • Performance
  • Durability
  • Functionality
  • Usability
  • Workmanship
  • Preferred materials - NEW

How does the SGS IC Mark help you?

The consumer goods industry has many approval, safety and quality marks but few, if any, provide you and consumers with information on their meaning or provenance. The IC Mark brings clarity. It shows that independent testing has taken place and publishes the agreed test parameters to an online database.
